The Dirty Truth about Concerts
Concert goers in the US produce 116,843,033 pounds of waste each year and emit 400,000 tons of carbon emissions.* That's a lot of needless waste and contribution to climate change . It doesn't have to be this like this. We can change to find a better way.
Beginning in 2023, we pledge to ask venues to implement at least 3 of these 6 eco-friendly solutions
Source your power from 100% renewable energy. This could include:
On site solar
Community Solar Co-op
Renewable Energy Credits (RECs)
Provide drinks or food in reusable cups that are cleaned by the venue or a third party.
Use kegged wine or beer when possible
If using cans, provide ample recycling bins with clear signage
FOOD / COMPOST
Provide ample compost bins with clear signage, if food is served. Many existing waste haulers offer compost services.
(and creating incentives for low carbon travel)
Provide incentives for low carbon travel. 3/4 of carbon emissions are travel to the venue. See a few ways this can be migitaged here.
Provide water stations for free water refills and allow fans to bring their own reusable bottle . This can eliminate the need for thousands of water bottles.
Bands, artists and venues that want to sign the pledge fill out the form to the right.
A rep from Musicians for Sustainability or one of our partners gets in touch with them within 48 hours.
For bands, we confirm that they will present this pledge to promoters and venues during the contracting process.
For venues and promoters, we confirm which requirements they are interested in pursuing. We can provide references if needed.
We recognize and promote band and venue members that are part of the solution.
How it works:
